How do you stay motivated during stressful times?

7 TIPS ON HOW TO STAY MOTIVATED WORKING FROM HOME

For many of us this concept isn’t new. I have been working from home for a couple of years and I love it. But it does take some discipline to do the things that you should be doing.

Now in 2020, we are facing the prospect that our partners and children will also be required to work from home as we adapt to Covoid 19!

How can we do this and all stay sane?

Here are my top tips on how to stay motivated and get through this time:

1. Get up and get ready as normal

Keep your normal routine. Wake up the same time you normally would. Breakfast. Shower. Makeup/hair- or not! The good thing is there will be no school drop-off – so you are saving time.

2. Try to keep your work zones separate

Easier said than done at the moment. By try to keep separate areas so that you each have time to focus and get things done

3. Try to Pomodoro technique

With several people in the house maybe try this method where you set a timer for 25 minutes and work on a specific task for that time until the alarm goes off. Then tick that item off the list and take a short break. For every four Pomodoro’s take a longer break. Use this timer to get you started.

4. Take advantage of virtual tools and apps

If you are home self-isolating at the moment, you can still keep in touch with clients and colleagues. Using tools such as Zoom, Google Hangouts or Skype – even Facetime are a great way to have face-to-face contact and keep the normality there so you don’t feel quite so isolated.

5. Stick to your hours

Make sure you keep to your timetable. You might not want to work 9-5 but you still need to have some downtime. With working from home, you can work when you are most productive as long as you keep your meeting times.

6. Take breaks and move around

When working from home it is so easy to forget the time and not get up and move around. Make sure you go outside occasionally and get some fresh air – go for a walk even.

7. Mentally switch off at the end of the day

Write a list as you finish for the day so that you know what you have to do the following day. This will help to slow your mind down and allow you to focus on other tasks

Together we will all get through this and come out the other side. We just need to stay focused on our business and keep going. There will be light at the end of the tunnel but in the meantime, we all need to stay connected
